No prior referral is required. Note: EPC/Team Care arrangements, TAC, Workcover or DVA clients require a referral from their doctor
Preston Physiotherapy FAQs
No you don’t need a referral to see a Preston physiotherapist. Simply call and book and appointment online. Just like your GP, Physiotherapists are first contact practitioners which means that you don’t need a referral to see us. However, we will engage with your other health practitioners including your GP as required.
A GP referral is necessary if you have a WorkCover/TAC claim, NDIS plan, Veteran Affairs client, or have a CDM plan (formally EPC).
All our consultations including Initial and Standard consultations are for 30min. Sometimes your physiotherapist may discuss with you about other consultations like a return to sport assessment that may require more time.
The Chronic Disease Management plan (formerly Enhanced Primary Care or EPC) is a Medicare initiative that enables a GP to refer patients with a chronic condition to allied health services including physiotherapy for up to five sessions per calendar year.
Your eligibility for CDM is up to the clinical judgment of your GP and includes having a chronic medical condition that has been (or likely to be) present for six months or longer, and conditions that require multidisciplinary care from a GP and at least two other health care providers.
Please speak to your GP to assess your eligibility.
You will need a referral from a GP in order to see a physiotherapist under this management plan.
EPC or Enhanced Primary Care plans are now referred to as CDM or Chronic Disease Management plans. It is a Medicare initiative that enables a GP to refer patients with a chronic condition to allied health services including physiotherapy for up to five sessions per calendar year.

Unfortunately there is no Medicare rebate for physiotherapy. This is unless you have a referral for a CDM plan from your GP. To find out more information, please refer to the FAQ regarding CDM.
Yes we accept private health insurance rebates if you have extras cover. We have an onsite HICAPS terminal at our Ivanhoe location that simplifies the rebate process and allows receive an instate rebate at the time of transaction.
Alternatively, at locations without a HICAPS terminal, you can make an instant claim using your private health funds app on your smartphone.
The amount of rebate varies between health funds and your level of cover. Please speak to your private health fund for further information.

Our physiotherapy consultations are not bulk billed. However, if you have a referral from your GP for a CDM plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate after your consultation.
You will be required to pay in full after your consultation, and you should expect the Medicare rebate in your nominated bank accounted after 1-2 days post processing. Alternatively, if prior arrangements have been made with your physiotherapist, you may be only charged the gap.

Failure to notify of cancelation or arrival will incur a cancellation fee.
Yes, we do treat WorkCover, TAC and Veteran Affairs patients. However, please be aware that are a private billing practice, and will require full payment after your consultation.
Alternatively, we can bill WorkCover and TAC directly provided that you have an accepted claim number and met your TAC medical threshold. However, there will be a gap fee to cover the rest of the consultation fee.
Our physiotherapists can also treat self-managed NDIS clients.
